Walk Run Race Frequently Asked Questions

Are the course distances certified?

Not yet.

There is some planned road construction that will be continuing through the 2014 event so we are waiting until that is completed before we go through the certification process.

At this time, we have done our best to come as close to the proper distance by using the same methods that are used in an official certification to measure and mark our routes so we are confident they are as close as possible.

Are the events officially timed?

Both the 5K and the 10K are timed by Race Place Chip Timing. A timing company out of Lake Crystal Minnesota (just outside of Mankato). 

The 1 Mile Fun Walk is not a race so it’s not timed and is a more leisurely stroll through the neighborhood.

What about adding a Half Marathon Distance to the Walk Run Race?

Your enthusiasm is AWESOME!

We have looked in to it but at this time, due to traffic concerns, we aren’t able to safely conduct an event larger than the 10K.

As new roads are built and existing ones are repaired/updated we will look into adding additional distances to our Walk Run Race.

What about a Bicycling Event?

We love that idea and actually do have it in our plans! Before we can actually launch it though we do need some additional help coordinating it.

Can I transfer my registration to someone else?

Your registration cannot be transferred to another runner. If you already registered and can no longer be in the Walk Run or Race, your options:

  1. Defer your registration until 2015′s event. If you defer, you forfeit your 2014 event Shirt and goody bag.
  2. You can pick up your goody bag and shirt(s) during normal pickup times and your registration fee will be considered a donation towards the Harrisburg Days Park Fund.

We can postal mail your goodies to you for an extra $10.00. Any goodies that are mailed will be shipped the week following the event no later than June 20, 2014.

2014 Registration deferrals are only good in 2015. They cannot be deferred additional years.

I registered, but now I can’t Walk Run Race? Can I get a refund?

If you already registered and can no longer be there to be in the Walk Run or Race, we won’t be able to do any refunds.

Your Options:

  1. Defer your registration until 2015′s event. If you defer, you forfeit your 2014 event Shirt and goody bag. You can still pick up your goody bag during normal pickup times. 
  2. You can pick up your goody bag and shirt(s) during normal pickup times and your registration fee will considered a donation towards the Harrisburg Days Park Fund.

Where does all the money go?

That’s a great question! Where does all the sponsor and registration money from the event go?

After all the expenses are paid for the event, the remainder of the money will be added to the Harrisburg Days Park Fund. The park fund is money that will go to the new community park.

Specifically, the Walk Run Race proceeds will be used for the comunity trail system that goes around and through the new park!

The Harrisburg Days Walk Run Race is part of the Harrisburg Days Foundation which is a 501(c)(3) charity so your donations and sponsorships are tax deductible*.

*Consult a tax expert for specific tax rules. Race registration fee’s are not tax deductible.
Do I have to register online?

No. As in 2013, we’ve got multiple registration options.

Soon we’ll be announcing Official Walk Run Race Registration locations where you will be able to stop by and register in person during normal business hours.

Can I bring my rollerblades? Bike? Stroller? or Pet?

Strollers are welcome along the 1 Mile Fun Walk. Please do not bring strollers along with you during the 5K or 10K races.

For everyones safety, rollerblades, pets and bikes are not allowed along the routes of any of the events.

When and Where can I pick up my race packet?

Race packets will be available for pick up:

When:  Friday, June 13th, 2014
What Time:  Between 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Where:  TBD

Packets can also be picked up the morning of the event:

When:  Saturday, June 14th, 2014
What Time:  Between 6:30 am – 7:30 am
Where:  Packet Pickup table located near the Start / Finish Line

This is typically a busy time so please either pick up your packet & bib Friday night or allot yourself plenty of time in the morning.

Is the 1 Mile Fun Walk a Timed Event?

No. The Fun Walk is meant to be a leisurely stroll through Harrisburg with Friends and Family and will not be timed.

If you are interested in a timed event, both the 5K and 10K will be officially timed.

What if the event is canceled due to bad weather?

While it is rare to have inclement weather in South Dakota in June… oh wait ;)

The Walk Run Race is planned as a rain or shine event but the organizers reserve the right to cancel in extreme circumstances. In that event, your entry fee will be used as a donation to the future Harrisburg Community Trail System. There will not be any refunds.

The organizers will make alternative arrangements for participants to pick up their goody bags if they are interested.

Will there be Race Day Registration?

Yes, there will be limited race day registration available. However, we strongly encourage all people considering registration to do so as soon as possible. That way we will do our best to ensure there are enough shirts, goody bags and food for everyone.

On race day, from 6:30 am – 7:30 am, there will be limited in-person registrations at the Walk Run Race registration table near the Start / Finish line of the events.

This is typically a busy time so please either pick up your packet & bib Friday night or allot yourself plenty of time in the morning.

How can I get involved without running?

We need hundreds of volunteers to make the race happen. Whether you volunteer on your own or as part of a group, you will walk away with some great SWAG and the glory of being a race day hero :)

How do I get my results?

Watch the Race Results page right here on this website. We’ll post them as soon as possible. The initial posting will be “pending official review”, the official results may take up to 10 business days to verify and certify.

NEW for 2014! We are working on having live race results available via a downloadable mobile app. More details coming soon!

What is there to do after the Walk Run Race?

The finish line is only the beginning! There will be some food and refreshments for all the participants at the finish line as well as the award ceremony. Once that’s done there is an entire day full of fun and entertainment including:

  • Parade
  • Ping Pong Ball Drop
  • Softball Tournament
  • Shops in the Park
  • Kiddie Carnival
  • Free Music Concerts
  • More food and refreshments
  • And more…

Can I change events once I register?

As long as you notify us no later than June 1, no problem, assuming there are still entries available in the event you want.

There will not be a charge for moving between the 10K and 5K events however to move from the 1 Mile Fun Walk to the 5K or 10K, you will need to pay the difference in the then current registration fee’s.

If you move from the 10K or 5K to the 1 Mile Fun Walk, there will not be a refund of the difference.
